Server Infrastructure: Blade Servers and Shared Storage

Description and results

Designed project cover: Server Infrastructure: Blade Servers and Shared Storage
Project cover based on the team’s archive photography.

Previous team experience. This work predates the Canadian operations of CL ELECTRIC. Client identity and location are withheld.

Our team deployed blade-server and storage infrastructure to support a virtualization environment. The installation combined a modular PowerEdge M1000e chassis with blade servers and an EMC VNX5200 storage system.

Compute and storage in one project

The chassis and blade servers provided the compute side of the deployment, while the storage system formed the shared storage component. The archive photographs document the installed equipment and its connections.

The project objective

The published project record identifies resilience and performance for virtualization workloads as the objectives of the deployment. These are the design goals described in the archive; no uptime percentage or benchmark result is claimed.

Previous infrastructure experience

This case records the team’s earlier experience integrating enterprise compute and storage hardware. The named models identify the equipment used at that time, rather than serving as a current purchasing recommendation. For a new installation, capacity, support, workload and recovery requirements should be established for the present project.
