Choose a scope that makes sense
Three levels of smart home projects
Not every house needs a central equipment rack or a touchscreen in every room. A smaller first phase can solve an immediate problem while preparing sensible routes for future expansion.
01 / Essential upgrades
Start with the everyday essentials
Improve one room or a small group of functions: lighting scenes for the main floor, selected motorized shades, compatible thermostat scheduling or simpler television controls.
This approach suits a finished home where you want a clear benefit without a major renovation. We review the existing circuits, cable access and network before proposing equipment.
02 / Connected living
Bring your main rooms together
Coordinate lighting, shades, climate and music across several spaces. The goal is consistent everyday control rather than a separate app for each device.
A typical scope includes a control platform, selected room interfaces, network improvements and integration with compatible entry or security equipment. It can be staged around a renovation or installed as one project.
03 / Complete custom homes
Design the property as one system
For new construction, major renovations and premium residences, plan whole-home lighting, shading, entertainment and automation alongside the building itself.
The work can include structured prewiring, equipment racks, distributed audio and video, home theatre integration, personalized scenes, documentation and commissioning.
These are project levels, not fixed-price packages. Room count, selected equipment, installation access and integration requirements determine the final proposal.
What can be included?
Lighting that suits the room
Different tasks need different light. Cooking, entertaining and relaxing should not all depend on the same full-brightness setting. We plan practical scenes, dimming and controls around the fixtures and circuits you actually have.
Wall controls remain an important part of the experience. Guests should be able to use a room without an app tutorial, and the person who did not choose the equipment should still find it straightforward.
Motorized shades and curtains
Bring daylight and privacy into the plan. Group window coverings where it is useful, or keep individual control where rooms need different settings. For new builds, decide shade power and cable routes before finishes go in.
In an existing home, window sizes, available access, power arrangements and maintenance needs help determine the suitable options.

Heating, cooling and comfort
Coordinate compatible temperature controls and schedules with the rest of your home. Integration is chosen around the installed HVAC equipment, with the relevant trade involved where required. Automation must not bypass equipment safety controls.
We agree which settings remain available locally and what should happen during an internet or network interruption. Energy management may reduce unnecessary operation, but savings depend on the house, equipment and how you use them.

Music, television and home theatre
Play music in the kitchen while another room uses a different source. Make the media-room remote select the right picture, sound and lighting without a complicated sequence of steps.
We consider speaker locations, display positions, acoustic priorities, cable pathways and ventilation for the equipment. A comfortable entertainment room starts with its layout, not just a list of devices.
Cameras, door stations and access
Include compatible cameras, intercoms, doorbells and entry controls where they are useful. Decide who has access, where recordings are stored and which notifications you actually want.
Security and remote access are configured for the selected system. Compatibility with equipment you already own is checked before it is included in the scope.
Leak detection and useful alerts
Compatible water-leak and temperature sensors can provide alerts in agreed locations. Automatic water shut-off needs suitable hardware and coordination with the relevant trade. These functions supplement required life-safety systems; they are not a replacement for independent alarms or required protections.
Loxone · Control4 · Savant
Our smart-home platform partners
CL ELECTRIC works with Loxone, Control4 and Savant for projects with different priorities and levels of integration. We select a direction around the home, the functions you need and the way you want to control them. The names below are alternative platform choices, not a claim that every device from all three belongs in one installation.
Loxone
A platform for coordinated building functions, including lighting, shading, climate and audio. It is worth discussing when your brief centres on the way the home should respond throughout the day, with automation working behind the scenes.
Control4
A whole-home control platform combining compatible lighting, entertainment, shades and other systems. We can plan the mix of keypads, remotes, apps and touchscreens around how each room is used.
Savant
A platform for personalized home control spanning entertainment, lighting, climate and scenes. The specification starts with your rooms and required functions, then considers the interfaces and compatible equipment that fit the brief.
Product availability, supported integrations, licences and ongoing service requirements are confirmed in the proposal.
A few scenes, used well
More automation is not automatically better. It is usually more useful to get a few everyday routines right than to create dozens of scenes nobody remembers.
An Evening scene might set comfortable lighting and close selected shades. Movie might select a media source and adjust the room lights. Goodnight could turn off agreed lighting groups while leaving a safe route through the house.
Those are examples, not a preset package. We decide the actions with you, including what should never happen automatically and how someone can override a scene.

New construction and existing homes need different plans
Before the walls close
Bring home automation into the discussion while the electrical and low-voltage layouts are being developed. Shade power, lighting-control architecture, speakers, door stations and equipment locations affect rough-in work.
We coordinate those decisions with the builder and relevant trades. Labelled cables, accessible equipment and sensible spare pathways help support later changes without committing to every device on day one.
Working with a finished house
We assess wiring, access, finishes, network coverage and existing equipment before confirming the practical scope. Wired, wireless and hybrid approaches all have a place.
A phased upgrade can focus on the most useful rooms first. Battery servicing, signal conditions and compatibility limits are discussed before installation, rather than left as surprises.
The network behind the experience
Your automation shares the house with work calls, streaming, gaming and ordinary internet use. Ethernet connections, Wi-Fi access points, switches and the equipment cabinet should be considered together.
For a larger installation, the scope can include an equipment rack, cable schedules, labelled connections, ventilation and agreed configuration. Backup power for selected network or control equipment can be considered separately from whole-home backup power.
Our structured cabling and networking, display integration and maintenance and support services can form part of the same residential project.
From the first conversation to handover
- Define the priorities. Discuss your property, budget range, timeline and the routines you want to improve.
- Build a room-by-room scope. Record lighting groups, shades, entertainment zones, user controls and equipment that should be retained.
- Agree the proposal. Separate equipment, installation, programming, third-party work and any recurring costs.
- Install and commission. Coordinate the work and test the agreed functions. Electrical and other regulated work is handled by appropriately qualified trades with required approvals.
- Hand over a usable home. Walk through routine controls, account access, documentation, fallback behaviour and support arrangements.
What affects the price?
The number of rooms is only one part of the cost. Lighting circuits, shade sizes, speaker zones, interface choices, access above finished ceilings and the amount of custom integration can change the work substantially.
We quote against a defined scope rather than a generic whole-home package. A proposal should distinguish initial installation from licences, subscriptions, ongoing support and later modifications where these apply.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work on smaller homes and projects?
Yes. Focused upgrades and mid-level integrated systems are part of the service, alongside larger custom homes. The starting point is a useful scope, not a minimum number of automated rooms.
Can I add automation without rewiring the whole house?
Many existing homes can use a wireless or hybrid approach for selected functions. We need to review the wiring, finishes and equipment before confirming what is practical.
Will everything work when the internet is down?
Not every function has the same dependencies. Local controls, remote access and streaming may behave differently. We identify and test the agreed fallback behaviour rather than promise that every feature works offline.
Can you reuse my existing devices?
Possibly. Send the make and model of your equipment and explain what you want it to do. Condition, supported integration methods and the selected platform determine whether it can be reused.
Which platform is best for my home?
Loxone, Control4 and Savant should be compared against your brief: required functions, interface preferences, existing equipment, infrastructure and support expectations. There is no single best choice for every property.
What do I need for an initial quote?
Your city, property type, building stage, timeline and main priorities. Floor plans, photos and model numbers help us ask the right follow-up questions.
