Description and results

Previous team experience. This work predates the Canadian operations of CL ELECTRIC. Client identity and location are withheld.
A waste collection operator needed visibility into vehicle movements and the collection process itself. Our team installed satellite tracking across the fleet and later extended the system with automatic photo capture linked to the loading mechanism.
Fleet monitoring and dispatch
The earlier deployment used Galileosky tracking equipment with Wialon monitoring software. A dispatch centre was established, enabling staff to follow vehicle routes and operational information. The project record describes an implementation completed without stopping the operator’s production processes.
Capturing the collection event
The later task was to photograph the start of container loading and unloading. Different vehicles and loading mechanisms required the team to compare two approaches: a reed-switch arrangement and a microcontroller-based system that determined the position of the loading arm.
A microcontroller-based solution
The selected approach used the loading arm position to trigger a photograph at the required moment. Unlike the reed-switch arrangement, it did not require a separate mating component that could be displaced during operation. Responsible staff could then review recorded collection events. This case combines the initial monitoring deployment and its later automation extension as work for the same fleet.
